August 11th, 2021
Join us as we continue our celebration of National Health Center Week (August 8th– August 14th).
The focus of Wednesday, August 11th is Patient Appreciation. Today, we honor and celebrate the patients who make up the community that Community Health Centers (CHCs) serve. We also commemorate the beloved patients’ lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every day, Community Health Centers serve patients and community members through providing care, but at an organization level, community members must make up at least 51% of CHC boards. This means that boards are made up of a diverse group of patients who are served by the health centers and represent the demographics of their patients. This requirement ensures that the voices of patients are heard, and that community members are able to advocate for their community and communicate its needs. Patients help keep the CHCs accountable and well-informed about the community’s needs.
Patients are the voice of the community! Celebrate those who advocate for community needs.
The National Association for Community Health Centers has provided the below suggestions for ways to celebrate patient appreciation day:
- Host a staff open house with events, prizes, and recognition activities
- Engage the board for advocacy
